The Cat's Meow: 1920s Pop Culture

The "Roaring Twenties" were characterized not only by flamboyance in pop culture, but also a cry against anything foreign. A heightened xenophobic feel pervaded the nation, disillusioned by WWI; hardly any immigrants were allowed into the country, all radical and furthermore many leftist ideas were shunned, the domestic economy was partly sealed off, and fears of red Russia inflated. Almost everything you can imagine having to do with national culture in the 1920s was exaggerated.
